IRS Extends June 15th Estimated Tax Payment Due Date to July 15th
IRS Extends June 15th Estimated Tax Payment Due Date to July 15th
Last month, the IRS extended the April 15th filing and payment deadlines to July 15th, which included an extension of the federal first quarter estimated tax due date as well. However, second quarter 2020 estimated tax payments were still due on June 15th. Yesterday, the IRS provided expanded relief and now all payments originally due on or after April 1, 2020 and before July 15, 2020 are extended to July 15, 2020. This means that the second quarter estimated tax payments due on June 15th are now due on July 15th.
Please note that some states have not yet adopted these automatic postponements and as such, some taxpayers may have state tax obligations and deadlines that differ from the federal deadlines. In particular, Arizona has not extended any 2020 estimated tax payment due dates, so first and second quarter 2020 Arizona estimated tax payments are still due on April 15th and June 15th, respectively.
